Rye Castle Museum Access Statement
East Street Museum
Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs can enter the Museum via the entrance ramp, our full collection is on one ground floor and there are no steps.
Accessible Toilets
There are no toilets at RCM East Street. The nearest public toilets are in the Gun Garden or the Salts. There is a map of the town on the desk; the steward will be happy to point out their location
Guide Dogs
The Museum is generally dog friendly, and guide dogs are permitted in all areas.
Emergency Evacuation
If you have particular needs in the event of an emergency evacuation, please inform the Information desk on arrival and we will ensure adequate care is taken to meet your evacuation needs.
Seating
Seating is available in both the Museum and in the garden of the Museum.
The steward at the desk is always more than happy to answer any of your questions about the collection or to pass your question to the office if necessary.
YPRES TOWER
The Ypres Tower is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It has uneven floors, low doorways, uneven steps and no lift. The Women’s Tower is situated in the garden; to access it visitors would need to go down a flight of steep steps. It is a difficult attraction for visitors with accessibility needs.
Wheelchairs
Access for wheelchairs is limited to the ground floor, though there is an entrance ramp. There is a virtual tour near the desk.
Accessible Toilet
There are no toilets in the Ypres Tower, though there are public toilets in the Gun Garden nearby. The steward will be happy to give you directions.
Guide Dogs
The Museum is generally dog friendly and guide dogs are certainly permitted in all areas of the Museum – though the stairs may be difficult for some dogs.
